How to Make Drinking in Public Legal - the Malaysian Experience

Backpacking in Indochina and coming from the Philippines made me think that alcohol is "cheap" in Asia. But not in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. Which became one of the greatest challenge during my stay in those countries.

Malaysia, as one Malaysian friend say, prohibits drinking in public. This means that you can just drink in bars and at home.

However, we managed to drink in front of the Petronas Towers. And we were even drinking by the Security/Utility office. There was the rum and some beer.

Jonathan and I finished the 750ml of Rum with the help of Brandon. The rest drank beer and the rest just cola.

What was the trick? And to think, there was the security guard that was just one the other bench.

Well, just buy 2 big colas, a bottle of rum transferred to a dark bottle (we used my black SIGG bottle). Try to mix the rum to the other bottle of cola and keep the other bottle of cola a "virgin" (in case the security asks). And if there is one "kill-joy" in the group, punch him/her! Hahaha... But seriously!

By the security office... shhh...

Public transportation system in Kuala Lumpur is not that great so most of the us decided to go back to their hostels or to their friends' places. And there were only 4 of us left:

Brandon, me, Jonathan and Candie

We continued our drinking session at rooftop of Jonathan's hostel. And we, Brandon and I, missed our train to our host. So we just decided to walk around KL. Another sleepless night which extended to 40 hours because I watched the football match the following night.
