Bacolod

Bacolod City has been my home since 1996.  This was not by choice but by chance since my stepmom decided to move me here from Manila.  It turned out actually great since this is where I have started to get to know the outdoors.

What is great about Bacolod?

There is really not much to see in the city.  We have got no tall buildings, historical places, or famous monuments.  We however got great food!

The city offers you:

  • CHICKEN INASAL.  You can get best at the MANUKAN COUNTRY.  It is very near SM.  I recommend AIDA's.  For the artsy, check the NEW PAZ where the owner is an artist.  You can also buy his paintings and other artworks there.
  • SWEETS.  We got the famous CALEA that serves the best cheesecake in town.  For more information,  click here.
  • COFFEE.  For the coffee lovers out there, Bacolod has got the fix for you.  There are still places that offers good brewed native coffee.  For information,  click here.

Bacolod for a day...

What to do in Bacolod if you only got a day?

You can start at the KM00 (Kilometer 00).  That is by the Capitol Lagoon.  The capitol lagoon is one of the landmarks of Bacolod City.

Since you are already there, you can visit the Provincial Capitol.  Maybe go the tourism office and get some maps and brochures about Negros Occidental.

To the right of the Provincial Capitol is a  conservation center which is run by the Negros Forest and Ecological Foundation, Inc (NFEFI).  You can visit it and there will be a guide to tour you around the center.  They have got aviaries for birds like the Tariktik (Visayan Hornbill).  You will also see the Visayan Spotted.

If you are interested in some Negros history, just almost around the corner from the center is the Negros Museum.  The museum also houses one of the biggest doll collections from all-over-the-world.

Getting hungry?  You can either walk to ride the jeepney to the Manukan Country.  Just ask the driver if he will pass by SM.

After your lunch, a slice of cheesecake from Calea would be really good.  You will have to go back to Lacson St. for it.  It is just in front of L'Fisher Hotel.

Pasalubong can be bought from the Negros Showroom which is also along Lacson St.  You can walk from Calea or even from the Capitol Lagoon.  Negros Showroom is however a bit expensive.

Enjoy your stay in Bacolod!
